Hotels & Dormitories
Hotel Moda, Vancouver, B.C.
This historic hotel built in 1908 is situated in the heart of the Arts & Entertainment district of
downtown Vancouver. The hotel consists of 57 rooms that hold modern as well as contemporary interior design. Hotel guests can wine and dine at the “Uva Wine Bar” and “Cibo Trattoria” which are both situated in the lobby. When the hotel needed a more efficient way of heating and cooling, they chose Aermec for the solution. With 15 tons of cooling as the building requirement, the following list of Aermec products were installed:
- 1 Aermec AN 807HA heat pump-5 ton cooling
- 1 Aermec 1507HA heat pump-10 ton cooling
- 60 Aermec FCX 32 US 3 speed cabinet style fan coils
- 4 Aermec FCX 32 USP 3 speed fan coils without cabinet to allow ducting
- 64 Aermec RX electric heaters 980 watts (installed on site by others)
One of the great benefits Aermec was able to offer was the ability to operate the units as heat
pumps with a boiler for backup providing a complete heating system. Each suite has its own
fan coil with wireless thermostat which also connects wirelessly to the reservation bridge of
the main lobby. The benefits of this wireless system are that rooms not occupied by guests will
not be heated or cooled, thus saving energy.
Beverly Hills Hilton Hotel
Heating and cooling, multiple Aermec fan coils
This mega-structure composed of 570 bedrooms, restaurants, well-being centre, shopping centre, garden, and swimming pool, built in 1955, was completely remodeled in 2003. The total cost of bringing the hotel back to its splendor was 80 million dollars. Today, the Beverly Hilton is among the most elegant hotels in Los Angeles, regularly visited by the Hollywood jet set.
The fan coils used are mainly the ‘PO’ version, for high priority ducted mounting. The 7 to 7.5kW may seem unusual for a hotel, but they are required due to the size of the larger than
average bedrooms and the requirements of the guests. The designers also requested high
capacity in order to obtain ’sensitive’ air conditioning.
